Mary Thomas
Mary Thomas has been an avid
reader all her life and one of her first childhood memories is of her
mother taking her to the library. Three years ago Mary saw a need for
help at her home branch, the Chantilly
Regional Library, and quickly stepped up to join the ranks in its
volunteer program.
Every Wednesday Mary volunteers with the library's circulation department. She began by helping to process the daily delivery of materials and has expanded her duties to include searching library shelves for books customers have placed on hold or items that have been reported as missing.
Mary enjoys the fast-paced work of processing the daily delivery as well as the camaraderie among the volunteers and staff. "If only more people knew how much work goes on behind the scenes to operate a library, I'm sure we'd be able to get even more volunteers."
