Low-cost Spay/Neuter Program

Thank you for your interest in the Fairfax County Animal Shelter's spay/neuter program.

The Fairfax County Animal Shelter coordinates its spay/neuter program in partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Spay/Neuter Center, operated in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The program is for Fairfax County residents only. Surgery appointments are available on Mondays. Only animals with an appointment previously scheduled by a Fairfax County Animal Shelter staff member will be eligible for spay/neuter at the clinic. Cats are dropped off at the shelter in Fairfax Monday morning at 5 a.m. and dogs are dropped off at 5:30 a.m. They are then transported to the clinic. Animals are picked up by their owners at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter on Tuesday – the day immediately after surgery—at  7 a.m. Animals between the ages of 10 weeks and 8 years are eligible for spay/neuter through the program. Animals must be a minimum of 2 pounds for surgery.

All animals must arrive to the clinic with proof of the pet’s current rabies vaccination. If this is not presented, then the person will be required to obtain and pay for a rabies vaccination for their animal while the pet is at the clinic.

If you are interested in setting up an appointment, please call (703) 830-1100.
