The Department of Tax Administration is
charged by law with the responsibility to assess and collect taxes for
Fairfax County. The main taxes are real estate, personal property and
business licensing. A number of convenient
payment methods such as e-checks, credit card payment and a
pay-at-bank option are available to citizens. An annual fiscal budget plan converts the county's
long-term plans and policies into viable services and programs. The
budget is used by the Board of Supervisors and county staff to coordinate
the use of revenues (income) and expenditures (expenses).
