Wiehle Metro Garage Project
More Information

Through a public-private partnership, Fairfax County is building a garage to serve the coming Reston-Wiehle Ave Metro station on the Silver Line. The underground garage, which will be built by the time the station opens in mid-2013, will offer:
- 2,300 public parking spaces
- 45 kiss-and-ride parking spaces
- 12 bus bays
- Secure storage for 150 bicycles
On April 5, the county and private developer, Comstock Partners, held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Reston East Park and Ride.
The seven-level garage will be located at 1860 Wiehle Avenue, which is north of the Metro station, next to the Dulles Toll Road and west of Wiehle Avenue. Of the five stations that will be built during the first phase of the Dulles Metrorail Project, Reston-Wiehle is the only station to offer a Metro garage, and it will be owned and operated by the county. The garage will be 1.5 million square feet in size—large enough to fit 28 football fields inside.
On top of the garage, Comstock will build a 1.3 million square feet of mixed-use, transit oriented development that includes:
- Office buildings
- Restaurants and shops
- A full-service hotel
- Up to 900 residences.
As part of the public-private partnership, the county is leasing the almost nine-acre site to Comstock, and the developer will pay rent on this future development. This partnership advances the county's goal of transit-oriented development, which helps to
- Increase Metro and transit ridership
- Reduce traffic
- Conserve open space
