The Map Wizard is a software application that simplifies the process of making a map with ArcView 9.1 GIS software. Maps can be centered on any property in Fairfax County. Anyone can visit the front counter at GIS & Mapping Services and create a map within minutes. To create a map using the Map Wizard you would do the following:

1) Choose from one of the following seven map templates.

• Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area
• Contours with Property
• Orthophotography
• Orthophotography with Property
• Property
• Soils with Property
• Topography (contours with surface features)
• Zoning

2) Search for a parcel by address or property identification number (PIN).

The map will be displayed with the selected parcel centered and the parcel boundary highlighted in red. You have the option to re-center your map using direction buttons.

3) Choose the scale of your map.

Examples are:

• 1" = 200' (1:2400)
• 1" = 500' (1:6000)

4) Choose the paper size.

Paper sizes are:

• 8.5" x 11"
• 17" x 22"
• 34" x 44"

5) Once you are finished making selections, send your map to the front counter color plotter.

Map prices are determined by paper size. Prices range from $5.00 to $10.00.
