      Abstract:
        Small-area geographic areas used for aggregating and reporting population, housing and other demographic or building data. Sub-census tracts are used in the Demographic Reports annual documents, on the Economic and Demographic website, and are the geographical areas used for reporting population, housing and household data to Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
      Purpose:
        To identify small areas which will remain constant over time and that serve a broad range of applications for Fairfax County local government and other governmental bodies, and which serve as a geographical basis to provide summary information to real estate, marketing and other interested parties outside of local government.

        The Economic and Demographic Group, the Department of Systems Management for Human Services reviews published wall maps showing Sub-Census tract boundaries each year. Sub-Census tract boundaries should be accurate to the same degree as Census Tracts.
    Logical Consistency Report:
      This layer as been built and has polygon, arc, and region topology. Sub-census areas are in one region subclass, census tracts are in another region subclass. All census tract and sub-census numbers are stored in an annotation subclass. The census region contains the census tract number attribute and the sub-census region contains the sub-census tract number attribute.

        This data set includes over 30 layers of attributed vector map data that were derived primarily from the Fairfax County 1"= 2000' and 1"= 4000' Wall Map Series.
