      Abstract:
        Fire battalion areas are the Geographic boundaries which is administrative in substance. Each area is staffed by a 2 person management team. Fire Boxs are Geographic boundaries with a unique response of the closest 20 Fire Station locations which would respond to dispatches. These boundaries were captured from the 4000 scale wall map. This coverage contains 2 annotation subclasses for fire box numbers. Street annotation subclass is for fireboxes in major roadways and box annotation subclass is for all other fireboxes.
      Purpose:
        Fire battalion areas divide the jurisdiction into equal parts of personnel for both fire and medical responsibility as a management team. Added duties include responding to emergency incidents. Fire boxes create a response area which provides emergency patterns for the closest 20 unit locations.
      Supplemental Information:
        Fire battalion areas are revised based upon first due area revisions (FireBox) and the construction of new fire stations. Due to the changing road network, fire station construction, and Mutual Aid agreements the response order is dynamic.

      Attribute Accuracy Report: Any error generated by over 1500+ daily dispatches are reviewed within 24 hours. Necessary revisions are made immediately.
    Logical Consistency Report:
      Various Arc/Info commands have been used to determine the logical consistency of the data. Once the layer was created, the build command was used to create the polygon topology. If lines were found that did not intersect, they were manually broken to create a node. Dangling arcs were removed if found. Attributes were inspected using the frequency command to ensure valid values.Region, polygon, and arc-node topology exists

        Process Description:
          The number of stations was divided to make administrative duties as equal as possible. Coverage for emergency incidents was a factor but not the volume of dispatches for members of the two man team was not a critical factor. Future station locations and staffing was also considered.
          ORGINIAL: Geographic points were selected and a distance measurement from each fire station was made. The closest 20 stations were then used to establish the response order. First Due boundaries were measured from the immediate surrounding stations and ‘exact' mileage was measured to determine the closest location.

          CURRENT: The posted road speed was used to determine the order, again through 20th due station.

        This data set includes over 30 layers of attributed vector map data that were derived primarily from the Fairfax County 1"= 2000' and 1"= 4000' Wall Map Series.
