Organizational meeting
Conducted first meeting of this work group, to include introductions, work group objectives, member roles and responsibilities, and establishing meeting schedule
Work group members in attendance: Carol Turner; Nancy Vorona; Kay Cooper.
Introductions
Carol Turner. Is Co-President of Ravenwood Park Citizens
Association
Nancy Vorona. Resides in Lake Barcroft and is member of BCRC
Kay Cooper. Resides in Lake Barcroft and is member of BCRC
Expectations/Outcomes
Cautious optimism
Trees/streetscape
Start seeing something happening. Want to see something
immediate/real (why they started Adopt-A-Highway/illegal sign
pick-up)
Would like to see expansion of Adopt-A-Highway program
Want Supervisor Gross and Task Force to take this group’s
recommendations seriously. Need County leadership to stand behind
this work group.
Enforcement of code
Learn more about how to provide support to Code staff. Clear
understanding of what’s legal/illegal, so they have a clear picture of
what is able to be pursued.
Coordination/communication with residential districts (HOAs, etc.)
Ensure there is dialogue on this work with Falls Church City and
Arlington County
Pedestrian bridge upkeep
County engagement of stakeholders (including B.F. Saul Company and
others)
Expectations of staff
Guide the group
Support the group, including support through knowledge and information
sharing
Work Group Objective
Want to ensure environmental concerns will be addressed, and language
should be incorporated into Objective to reflect this (recommend
incorporation of environmental language into Quality of Life and Task
Force Objectives)
Want to ensure there’s a place for addressing aesthetics in the work of
this group
Other
Reviewed work of Task Force and Connectivity Work Group. Want to
ensure there’s opportunity for the Quality of Life Work Group to
interact/have dialogue with the Task Force as a part of this
process.
Discussed decision making and agreed to abide by majority
vote.
Discussed process for ensuring that these meetings are open to the
public. Staff shared that they may want to encourage friends,
neighbors and others to attend meetings and may want to dedicate part of
the agenda time to hear from non-work group members.

Meeting Schedule
Agreed to hold monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Meetings will be held at Mason District Government Center

Work Group members to review Visioning workshop summaries
provided at meeting and come prepared to discuss top 2-3 issues they
identified in these summaries that will form the basis of this group’s
work and recommendations
Mike to provide recommendation template and Comprehensive Plan
text as background information. Mike also agreed to provide
information on open meeting requirements.
Mike to invite VDOT rep to future meeting
Elisa to obtain clarification on boundaries of this work group’s
recommendations – would like to see Seven Corners as piece of a larger
thing… corridor extending from Seven Corners, through Culmore, to
Bailey’s Crossroads.
Jay to enlarge map of area and provide to group
Work group requested information on previous revitalization study done ~
mid 90s. Elisa to follow-up.

Mike shared that an agreement has been drafted for VDOT, which will have impact for Adopt-A-Highway program. Mike will provide a clearer picture on timeframes regarding implementation of this agreement at next meeting.
