Mount Vernon's 25th Annual Town Meeting was held on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Mount Vernon High School “Little Theatre.”
After the Pledge of Allegiance and a sing-a-long of the National Anthem led by Mr. Jay Spiegel, Supervisor Hyland welcomed everyone, introduced elected officials and appointees who were in the audience, and asked everyone to remember the Mount Vernon District residents we lost in 2011.
Supervisor Hyland introduced the panelists:
Ms. Sharon Bulova, Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
Mr. Tony Griffin, County Executive
COL John J. Strycula, Garrison Commander, Fort Belvoir Army Post
Mr. Dan Storck, Mount Vernon District Representative, Fairfax County
School Board
After presentations by Chairman Bulova and Mr. Griffin, Supervisor Hyland presented his Virtual Bus Tour, with a comprehensive slide presentation accompanied by his live narrative. The Exhibits were a great success this year! Supervisor
Hyland thanks the 80 exhibitors who participated in the exhibit hall this
year and provided very useful information for our residents and an
opportunity for engagement with so many of our County departments,
agencies, and non-profits. Residents were able to obtain blood
pressure screenings and find out more information about diabetes and
stroke risk at the Inova Health System table, meet one of the Fairfax
County Park Authority's black snakes and turtles, learn about code
enforcement and ask staff questions, register to vote, find out more
about Fort Belvoir, hear about upcoming events at the Lorton Arts
Foundation, learn how they can help United Christian Ministries and the
Lorton Community Action Center meet the needs of our residents, and so
much more!.
