2014 Town Meeting

Mount Vernon's 27th Annual Town Meeting was held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Mount Vernon High School “Little Theatre.”

After posting of the Colors by the Mount Vernon High School Marine JROTC and the Pledge of Allegiance, Supervisor Hyland welcomed everyone, introduced elected officials and appointees who were in the audience, and asked everyone to remember the Mount Vernon District residents lost in 2013.

Supervisor Hyland introduced several possible candidates for Congressman Moran’s 8th Congressional District Seat, and invited them to say a few words.

Next, we heard presentations:

County Priorities:  Sharon Bulova, Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors

Fairfax County Issues and Budget:  Ed Long, Fairfax County Executive

Fort Belvoir Update:  Colonel Gregory Gadson, Garrison Commander, Fort Belvoir

Mount Vernon School Current Issues and Challenges:  Dr. Karen Garza, Superintendent, Fairfax County Public Schools AND Dan Storck, School Board Representative, Mount Vernon District

Finally, Supervisor Hyland presented his Virtual Bus Tour, with a comprehensive slide presentation accompanied by his live narrative.  The slide presentation can be viewed by clicking the links below:
