In Your Mount Vernon Neighborhood

Coordinated with the Virginia Department of Transportation, Fairfax County Department of Transportation, the Board of Supervisors’ offices and most importantly, neighborhood groups, the Residential Traffic Administration Program (R-TAP) offers an opportunity to educate the community and implement traffic calming devices on qualified roads.

Common Traffic Calming methods include:

Cut-Through Restrictions
$200 Fine for Speeding Signs
Multi-Way Stop Signs
Watch for Children Signs
Through Truck Restrictions
Community Parking Districts
Residential Permit Parking Districts (Already have one in place?)

R-TAP is a multi-step process which ensures broad community support and participation in the traffic calming process. A detailed chart outlining the required steps for each traffic calming method is available on the Fairfax County Department of Transportation website (58 kb .pdf file), or you can pick up a copy at the Supervisor's Office.

If you and other residents in your neighborhood are interested in pursuing any of these options, please contact the Supervisor's Office to learn more about the process.
