Sidewalks and Trails in Mount Vernon

Fairfax County's Pedestrian Plan - Fairfax County is committed to pedestrian safety and has embarked on an intensive program to increase pedestrian options along Richmond Highway and throughout the Mount Vernon District. The Board of Supervisors created a Pedestrian Task Force to develop a plan for implementing safe and effective pedestrian facilities, and a coordinated and collaborative education/outreach program.

The Task Force's final report (very large 7.65 MG .pdf file) was presented to the Board of Supervisors on January 23, 2006. The report addresses pedestrian mobility, safety and education issues in Fairfax County. It is the result of more than a year of work by the task force to fulfill its mission to develop a plan for implementing safe and effective pedestrian facilities and develop a coordinated and collaborative education/outreach program. A copy of the final report can be viewed at the Supervisor's Office and at all Fairfax County Public Library branches.

If you are interested in the maintenance of your sidewalks, or adding new sidewalks to your existing community, please contact the Supervisor's Office.

Below are photos of sidewalk projects finished along Richmond Highway.
