NCS Senior Centers Kick Off 2020 with Monthly Themes

2020 calendar

In 2020, registered members of Fairfax County Senior Centers will see new monthly themes and a cohesive focus across all locations. Fairfax County is home to many older adults, and county agencies are always looking for ways to meet the needs of a far more active, engaged and mobile senior population

Starting in the New Year, the county’s 14 Senior Centers, catering to residents who are 50 and over, will feature special events, guest speakers and displays tied to monthly themes. For Celebrating Diversity month in January, programs may include cooking demonstrations and “armchair” travel; in Technology Literacy month (August), programs will focus on Internet and phone safety and the pitfalls of technology addiction; and in Pay It Forward month (December), members can participate in donation drives and intergenerational activities.

Additional themes will include Heart Healthy, Financial Health, Community Engagement & Volunteerism, Emergency Preparedness, Creative Aging, Healthy Lifestyle, Technology Literacy, Safety Awareness, Brain & Mental Health, and Caregiver Awareness.

These themes and special programs are in addition to the diverse program of social and recreational activities seniors already enjoy, including fitness, art, technology and many special interests. All Senior Centers also offer a weekday lunchtime meal and transportation options.

Senior Center membership fees for Fairfax County residents range from $24 to $48 annually based on household income. Non-county residents may purchase memberships for $100 per year.
