Fairfax County has received a Seal of Good eGovernance Award by the Joint Center for eGovernance and the National Association of Counties. Fairfax County was awarded the eGovernance Award of Distinction and will receive a silver seal.
The Seal of Good eGovernance Award is a competitive e-government award for U.S. local and county governments that recognizes county government organizations that have developed innovative and creative ways of using information technology to serve and connect with their customers and the public. Fairfax competed with other similar counties containing populations of 500,000 - 999,999.
Fairfax County's award winning e-government program addresses the digital divide and has been successful in creating a “government without walls, doors or clocks,” or 24-hour government. The e-government program utilizes multi-channel service delivery via the Web, 25 kiosks, Interactive Voice Response via touch-tone phone and a Cable TV government access channel. In fiscal year 2001, 23 percent of e-government transactions were made after regular business hours and that number is expected to increase this year.
