Free Bus Fares to End on Extra Routes
Effective Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, free fares that have been in effect on FAIRFAX CONNECTOR Routes 504, 505, 551, 552, 554, 556, 557, 605, 950, 980, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3 and RIBS 4 will be discontinued. These 14 routes have been free since Nov. 24, 2002, as part of the Temporary Bus Fare Buydown program which ends on Jan. 20. Beginning Jan. 21, these routes will return to their regular base cost of 50 cents, or 25 cents with a Metrorail-to-bus transfer.
The Bus Fare Buydown program is a promotion funded by the commonwealth of Virginia to increase Metrorail ridership by lowering the fares on bus routes which connect with Metrorail stations.
There are, however, 12 additional FAIRFAX CONNECTOR bus routes which will continue to be free through June 30, 2003, also as part of the Bus Fare Buydown program. Those routes are 425, 427, 553, 574, 585, 922, 924, 926, 927, 929, 951 and 952.
