Herndon-Monroe Bus Departure Bays Change Feb. 3

Effective Feb. 3, 2003, construction will begin on the east side of the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride, causing bus passengers to relocate to bus bays on the newly completed west side of the Park & Ride. Bus bays lettered A, B, C, D, temporary F and temporary G will be closed, and buses will be re-assigned to bus bays E, F, G and H on the west end of the Park & Ride.

A canopy is being constructed over the bus platform to provide Herndon-Monroe bus passengers with greater shelter from the elements. Contractors have just completed the canopy on the western half of the bus platform (closest to the parking garage), and now will shift their work to the eastern side. The construction zone will be closed off, and signs directing passengers to their relocated buses will be placed throughout the facility. Construction is expected to continue for four months.

Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride features 1,745 free parking spaces, access to and from the Dulles Toll Road, and express bus service every six minutes to and from the West Falls Church Metro Station. The Connector Store at Herndon-Monroe normally is open during weekday rush-hours to offer pass and ticket sales, free assistance to commuters, and free maps and bus schedules, but Connector Store operations will be impacted by the construction. Passengers will be notified of any changes before they occur.

The Fairfax Connector bus system operates 11 bus routes from the Herndon-Monroe Park & Ride. Metrobus route 5A also makes a stop at Herndon-Monroe.
