Reminder on Auto Decals
Fairfax County citizens who recently moved to the county or recently purchased a vehicle must still buy a decal within 60 days of the date of purchase or residency, even though the Board of Supervisors recently approved a new customer service initiative allowing most county residents to receive their decals in the mail along with their tax bills. County residents living within the town limits of Clifton, Herndon and Vienna also need to register their vehicles and file for personal property taxes with Fairfax County, but they must purchase decals or tags from their respective town halls.
Tax payments are due Feb. 15 for vehicles bought in, or moved to, the county after July 1, 2002. If you have not received your bill, call the Department of Tax Administration at 703-222-8234, TTY 703-222-7594. Because Feb. 15 falls on a Saturday this year, payments received (or postmarked) by Feb. 18 will be acceptable.
For more information concerning the purchase of county decals, call the Central Tax Information number at 703-222 8234, TTY 703-222-7594 or send an e-mail to dtappd@fairfaxcounty.gov. Citizens using a touch tone telephone may also call the county's 24 hour telephone information system at 703-324 INFO (4636) and then press 1, 5, 2, 1, 4. In addition, citizens may obtain tax information by visiting the Department of Tax Administration's page on the county's Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dta.
The Fairfax County Department of Tax Administration has full service tax
counters open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with extended
hours on Thursdays to 6:30 p.m.
