Regional Guide to Emergency Preparedness
Available In Fairfax County
Beginning today, Feb. 10, a new regional publication, “Your Guide to Emergency Preparedness,” will be available to every resident in Northern Virginia. This emergency guide is a comprehensive booklet offering detailed information on preparing for emergencies. It was developed through the cooperation of 14 local Northern Virginia governments working together with the Fairfax County Water Authority, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Northern Virginia Regional Commission.
Emergency events can occur quickly and without warning. Every household should prepare for an emergency by having an emergency preparedness kit, an escape plan, a communications plan and information about school and workplace emergency plans. This booklet offers information and resources to help people plan for most emergency situations. It includes tips on creating an emergency preparedness kit for your home and car, making financial preparations, preparing for an extended loss of power and much more.
The booklet will be available at no charge to all residents in Northern Virginia beginning the week of Feb. 10. Residents who subscribe to the Washington Post will receive the booklet as part of the insert in their Sunday paper on Feb. 16. Non-subscribers will receive the brochure in the U.S. mail that same week. Additionally, in Fairfax County, the guide will be available at all Board of Supervisors’ offices and at all public libraries. Children in Fairfax County public schools also will receive a copy to share with their families.
This publication can be viewed on the Fairfax County Government Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov.
