Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to
Recognize
the Oakton HS Football Team and Issue Proclamations
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, at their meeting on Monday, Feb. 24, beginning at 9 a.m., will recognize the Oakton High School football team for its achievements. Proclamations will be issued as listed below. For more information, call 703-324-3187, TTY 703-324-2935.
It’s All in How You Play the Game
The Oakton High School football team will be recognized for besting the
incumbent Virginia State champion to win the Virginia AAA Division 6
Northern Region championship. The team, coached by Peter Bendorf, went on
to win the AAA State Semifinals, qualifying them to play in the Virginia
State championship contest.
March is Women’s History Month
A proclamation will be issued designating March as Women’s History Month
in Fairfax County. This year marks the 155th anniversary of the Women’s
Rights Movement resulting in securing for women the right to vote, own
property and receive equal treatment in the workforce.
Including People with Developmental Disabilities Month
The Board of Supervisors will proclaim March as Including People with
Developmental Disabilities Month in Fairfax County. In doing so, the
Board will note that individuals with cognitive disabilities constitute
one of America’s largest groups of citizens with disabilities. These
citizens, with appropriate support, are productive and independent
individuals who contribute to their communities and the well-being of
others.
National Purchasing Month
The purchasing and materials management profession plays an important
role in the quality, efficiency and profitability of businesses,
organizations and governments throughout the United States. Noting that
the primary mission of the Fairfax County Department of Purchasing and
Supply Management is to provide responsive customer service and procure
the best products/services from the best sources and at the best prices,
the Board of Supervisors will designate March as National Purchasing
Month in Fairfax County.
