Public Input Sought on Solid Waste Management Plan
The Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program is in the process of developing a Solid Waste Management Plan. The goal of the plan is to determine the future of solid waste management, which includes rubbish and recyclables, for the next 20 years in Fairfax County. Through this planning process, the county hopes to evaluate waste disposal capacity; increase the efficiency in the waste management system; develop long-term projections and improve the environment.
The initial phase of the planning process will be a series of public
meetings held from April through November 2003 at locations throughout
Fairfax County. The first public meeting will be held in conjunction with
Supervisor Gerry Connolly's Fourth Annual Providence District
Environmental Workshop on Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at
Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church.
Citizens are encouraged to attend the public meetings because their input is essential to make the planning process a success. General information about the Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program and the community meetings is available on the county's Web site at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes. Periodically, surveys related to solid waste management will also be posted on the Web site to gather citizens' feedback about strategic planning questions.
