Appoints New Director of Internal Audit Office
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Christopher J. Pietsch as director of the Fairfax County Internal Audit Office, effective April 14, 2003. He succeeds Ron Coen who retired on Oct. 4, 2002.
As director of the Internal Audit Office, Pietsch will be responsible for continually examining and evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of the system of internal control and the quality of program performance. The Internal Audit Office helps to assure that tax dollars are appropriately and efficiently spent.
Pietsch earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va. Prior to this appointment, Pietsch held positions in both the public and private sector. From 1986 to 1991 he was employed by Jefferson National Bank, Richmond, Va., where he conducted internal audits of all bank departments and branch offices. From 1991 to 1996 he was employed by the commonwealth of Virginia as a senior auditor where he was responsible for audits of all agency departments and functions and verified that agency operations were in compliance with applicable regulations.
Most recently, Pietsch has been a senior audit officer with First Virginia Banks, Inc., Falls Church, Va. While in this position he developed a unified approach to auditing the corporate finance and indirect lending functions, managed a staff of five-seven auditors and analyzed financial, operational and compliance risks to ensure that sufficient, effective controls were in place.
Pietsch will receive an annual salary of $82,000. His professional certifications include Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Bank Auditor (CBA).
