Online Directory of Human Services
Available to County Residents

Have you ever wondered what local organizations provide assistance to the homeless or what organizations accept food donations? Did you know that many local organizations can help with basic needs such as food, housing, temporary financial assistance and transportation? Hundreds of local organizations provide services throughout the county. A directory of these services is available online in the Human Services Resource Guide.

The guide, a comprehensive directory of services and public, non-profit and some for-profit service providers throughout the county, contains detailed service descriptions, criteria for accessing services and eligibility, income guidelines, location and contact information for hundreds of organizations providing human services in Fairfax County. The Resource Information Management Services group of the Department of Systems Management for Human Services developed the Human Services Resource Guide, which is maintained by social workers who research, classify, catalog and maintain the data.

The guide, containing more than 600 organizations, also provides a depth of information on each organization that is helpful to prospective clients and social workers as they seek to understand eligibility criteria and where services are available. Users can search by service type or organization name. For example, a search on "homeless" returns more than 25 organizations, including non-profits and county agencies that provide services to the homeless.

The Human Services Resource Guide contains a variety of information on organizations including:

  • Detailed organization and service descriptions
  • How to access the service
  • Eligibility criteria
  • Information needed to help decide if a service is a good match
  • Service locations
  • Hours of Operation
  • Languages on staff
  • Income guidelines
  • How to contact the organization

Staff is available for training presentations to community groups and associations on how to use the resource guide. To schedule training or for more information on the guide, call 703-533-5718, TTY 711 (Virginia Relay Center), or send an e-mail to wwwrim@fairfaxcounty.gov. Organizations interested in being included in the guide are encouraged to mail brochures, fact sheets or other materials to Resource Information Management Services, 6245 Leesburg Pike, #320, Falls Church, Va. 22044.
