New Judge to Take Oath in General District Court

William J. Minor Jr. will be formally sworn in as a new judge in the Fairfax County General District Court on Thursday, May 8, 2003. He was elected by the Virginia General Assembly to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge J. Conrad Waters Jr.

Minor graduated from the George Mason University School of Law and was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1982. From 1983 to 1987, he served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County. Since leaving the prosecutor’s office, he has been in private practice with an emphasis on criminal law and civil litigation. He has served as an instructor at the Fairfax County Public Safety Academy and the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy, in addition to volunteering as a lecturer for continuing legal education classes.

In 1994, Minor was selected as a substitute judge at the district court level in Fairfax County and was reappointed to that position in 2000. During his tenure as a substitute judge, he has had the opportunity to hear cases in the Fairfax County General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, as well as serve as a substitute judge for district courts in neighboring counties and jurisdictions.

Minor was raised in Arlington, Va. and currently resides in Burke. He graduated in 1974 from the Virginia Military Institute with a bachelor’s degree in history and a commission in the United States Air Force. He served on active duty as a pilot from 1975 to 1979 before entering law school.
