Fairfax County Recognized for Excellence in Procurement
Fairfax County has received a renewal of certification of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing Outstanding Agency Accreditation Achievement Award. The award formally recognizes excellence in public procurement by establishing a body of standards that should be in place for a solid purchasing operation.
“The award is important to Fairfax County in that it validates the strategic direction we are pursuing in procurement and keeps us striving to implement best practices recognized by NIGP,” said Cathy Muse, director of the Fairfax County Department of Purchasing and Supply Management, upon receiving notification that the accreditation award was renewed. DPSM is the primary agency for the procurement of goods and services for Fairfax County Government and Fairfax County Public Schools. In making the announcement, Rick Grimm, NIGP chief executive officer, stated, “Many governmental agencies have attempted to achieve this accreditation status, only to realize that their practices fall short of the required standards of performance. Only 55 governments throughout the United States and Canada have attained this distinction. Clearly, Fairfax County has joined a very elite group of purchasing organizations that represent the highest sustained standards of quality and efficiency in government.”
