Watch for Decals in the Mail
Last week, for the first time, the Fairfax County Department of Tax Administration began mailing thousands of auto decals included in personal property tax bills. This year, most Fairfax County residents will receive their decals in this mailing with their bills instead of having to wait until after paying their bills. Auto owners are encouraged to look carefully at their personal property tax bills for their blue 2004 decal, and not to throw it away accidentally.
The decals and tax bills are being sent to residents over the next couple of months. The Department of Tax Administration recommends placing the decal on your windshield upon receipt. Remember, even though you already have the decal, payment must still be made by Oct. 5, 2003, to avoid late penalties and collection actions.
Not everyone will receive their decals with their personal property tax bills. Decals will not be mailed to anyone with delinquent vehicle taxes or parking tickets until all accounts are paid in full.
