Fairfax County Wants Residents to Talk Trash
Fairfax County really wants to know how people feel about their trash. Community input will influence the way the county deals with trash for the next 20 years. Do residents want to recycle additional materials curbside? Should small business recycling requirements be changed? How should the county fund community benefit programs? What should the county's role be in managing trash collection and recycling services?
It's not too late for Fairfax County residents to visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes to offer their opinions via
an online survey about solid waste management (trash management) in the
county. The survey is part of the process to develop a solid waste
management plan to guide the county in the next 20 years. The survey has
24 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. Survey questions
range from asking about curbside recycling to opinions about the cost of
trash collection.
Through this solid waste management planning process, the county hopes
to identify future waste disposal options, increase the efficiency of the
waste management system, develop long-term projections to ensure that
materials are managed, and implement strategies that protect the
environment. The planning process also includes a series of public
meetings held through November at locations throughout Fairfax County.
General information about the Fairfax County Solid Waste Management
Program and the community meetings is available on the county's Web site
at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dpwes. A public hearing
will be held in spring 2004 to review and approve the final plan.

planning process, contact Pamela Gratton at 703-324-5498, TTY 711 or

Management Program of the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and
Environmental Services.
