Volunteer to be a Mosquito Magician
Make mosquitoes disappear in your community. If you enjoy walking around your neighborhood you can combine your walk with a great public service by volunteering to help with the Health Department's West Nile virus prevention and mosquito reduction program. Volunteers are needed to distribute mosquito control information at homes or places of business in their area.
If you're better at talking than walking, consider volunteering as a community educator. Volunteers who enjoy working with people, have a good eye, and want to help reduce the number of mosquito breeding sites in the neighborhood can combine their skills to help neighbors assess their property (at the request of the resident) to identify potential mosquito breeding sites. Volunteers are also needed to pass out mosquito control information at community events like farmers markets, carnivals, parades and worship services.
For more information or to volunteer, call Carl Sivertsen in the county
Health Department at 703-246-2338, TTY 711, or send an e-mail to carl.sivertsen@fairfaxcounty.gov.
