Sacramento Neighborhood Center
to Host Annual Community Day
The Sacramento Neighborhood Center is celebrating its Third Annual Sacramento Community Day — “Celebrating Diversity” — on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sacramento Neighborhood Center located at 8792E Sacramento Drive, Alexandria. The community event promises to provide food, fun and entertainment and is sponsored by the Sacramento Neighborhood Center, United Community Ministries and the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services.
Among the highlights of the day is a child safety seat inspection performed by the Fairfax County Police Department, Mt. Vernon Police Station. Other activities include a karate demonstration, Brazilian martial arts demonstration, hula dancers and live bands. The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department will also have a fire truck on site for viewing.
Numerous community and county agencies will participate in this year’s event, including the county’s Office of Partnerships, Coordinated Services Planning, Department of Community and Recreation Services, South County Teen Center, Gum Springs Community Center, Department of Family Services’ Early Head Start program, Alcohol and Drug Services and the Department of Systems Management for Human Services.
The Sacramento Neighborhood Center community day event began in 2001 as a way to focus community members on three elements — school, family and community. The SNC, the only Fairfax County center managed by a nonprofit organization, is located less than one mile north of Fort Belvoir in the southwest corner of the county. The Sacramento neighborhood includes over 1,000 families.
