Mandatory Evacuation Requested for
New Alexandria and Belle View Sections of County
As you know, Hurricane Isabel will be passing through Fairfax County over the next 12 hours, bringing dangerous winds and heavy rainfall. A mandatory evacuation has been requested for New Alexandria and Belle View. Residents should make arrangements to leave their home as soon as possible, but no later than 7 p.m. this evening. It may become necessary to close roads if flooding occurs, so it is important that you evacuate as soon as possible.
Shelters have been opened in Fairfax County, but space is limited and we ask that if you can make arrangements to stay with friends or family that you please do so. If you need to evacuate to a county shelter, the closest locations are:
- Whitman Middle School, 2500 Parkers Lane, Alexandria
- Edison High School, 5801 Franconia Road, Alexandria
For persons who need assistance evacuating due to a medical condition, please call the Fairfax County Emergency Information Line at 703-817-7771, TTY 711.
Edison High School will accept pets along with their owners. No animals will be allowed at Whitman Middle School, except service animals such as seeing eye dogs. Therefore, residents should make alternative arrangements for their pets prior to going to Whitman.

items:

refrigeration)
