FEMA Disaster Recovery Center To Remain Open in Fairfax County
The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center open in Fairfax County since Oct. 6 will remain open to continue assisting those who suffered losses and damages from Hurricane Isabel. The center is located at the South County Center, 8350 Richmond Highway, Suite 125, Alexandria.
The Disaster Recovery Center is expected to be open Monday, Oct. 13 – Friday, Oct. 17. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Monday, Oct. 13, the county government offices will observe the Columbus Day holiday; however, FEMA services will still be available. Residents of affected jurisdictions can visit any Disaster Recovery Center for assistance. Residents are reminded that they should register with FEMA prior to visiting the center.
Individuals can register with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency prior to visiting the Disaster Recovery Center by calling the toll-free number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585. The phone lines are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is Nov. 17, 2003.
Representatives from FEMA, Fairfax County
government, the U.S. Small Business Administration, a hazard mitigation
specialist as well as voluntary organizations will be available to
provide information on disaster recovery programs. Additionally, the
Small Business Administration will be available to help homeowners,
renters and businesses fill out applications for low-interest
loans.
