Celebrate National Transit Day with FAIRFAX
CONNECTOR
Ride FAIRFAX CONNECTOR Routes 105, 106, 107 and Metrobus 9A for just
50 cents
As the country celebrates National Transit Day on Oct. 16, Fairfax County offers discounted rides on FAIRFAX CONNECTOR Richmond Highway bus routes. The Bus Fare Buydown program encourages motorists traveling through the Richmond Highway Corridor to try transit instead of driving. Enjoy a discounted ride of just 50 cents now through June 2004 on FAIRFAX CONNECTOR routes 105, 106, 107 and Metrobus 9A. FAIRFAX CONNECTOR base fares are 75 cents without the bus buydown discount.
The Bus Fare Buydown program is a promotion funded by the commonwealth
of Virginia to increase Metrorail ridership by lowering the fares on bus
routes that serve Metrorail stations. The program offered discounted
rides in the Dulles Corridor last year, in the I-95 Corridor in 2002, and
in the I-66 Corridor in 2000. The Bus Fare Buydown program has proven to
be successful in the past, increasing ridership each year:
| Year | Corridor | Increase in Ridership |
| FY-01 | I-66 Corridor | + 19.3% |
| FY-02 | I-95 Franconia-Springfield | + 10.6% |
| FY-03 | Dulles Corridor | + 19.6% |
