Fairfax County to Conduct Sweep in County
Collection Areas
for Storm Debris
Over the next three weeks, the Fairfax County Division of Solid Waste will be conducting a sweep in each of the county’s sanitary districts to collect any remaining debris from Hurricane Isabel. Since Hurricane Isabel hit Fairfax County, the county’s collection volume in sanitary districts has increased from 160 tons per week to 700 tons per week. In order to efficiently complete the collection of storm debris, scheduling of all other special collections will be delayed until the sweep is completed. The county will be collecting brush that does not require special equipment for collection on customers’ regular yard debris collection days. The sweep schedule is:
- Monday Fairfax County Collection Customers - 10/20 - 10/22
- Tuesday Fairfax County Collection Customers - 10/23 - 10/27
- Wednesday Fairfax County Collection Customers - 10/28 - 10/30
- Thursday Fairfax County Collection Customers - 10/31 - 11/4
- Friday Fairfax County Collection Customers - 11/5 - 11/7
If an area is completed ahead of schedule, sweep collection will begin
in the next scheduled area.
This collection is for hurricane debris only. To help expedite the
collection process, residents are asked not to add any new yard debris to
their hurricane debris until the sweep is completed. This storm debris
collection is for Fairfax County trash customers only. Residents whose
trash collection service is provided by private haulers should contact
their hauler for information on storm debris removal. Those residents who
do not know if they have county service can call 703-802-3322, TTY
711.
For more information about the county’s sweep collection, contact
Colleen Burroughs, Customer Service Supervisor, Division of Solid Waste
at 703-324-5228, TTY 711.
