Free Shuttle Bus to Burke VRE Starts Dec.
1
Ceremony to Commemorate Service Scheduled
for Dec. 12
Monday, Dec. 1, Fairfax County, in conjunction with the Virginia Railway
Express, will launch a free shuttle bus service that will serve the Burke
Centre VRE Station. The new shuttle service, called “EZ Bus,” was
established as part of Governor Mark Warner’s Congestion Relief
initiative. EZ Bus will help alleviate some of the over-crowding of the
Burke Centre VRE Station parking lot, which usually fills by 7:30
a.m.
On Friday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m., a ceremony will take place at the Burke
Centre VRE Station to commemorate the launch of this new service and to
christen the colorful bus. Virginia Secretary of Transportation
Whittington Clement, Fairfax County Braddock District Supervisor Sharon
Bulova and other elected officials will be on hand to celebrate this
first-of-its kind transportation initiative. Members of the community are
welcome to attend the ceremony.
EZ Bus will operate two neighborhood routes – one north of the station,
and one south of the station. It is a subscription shuttle bus service,
so passengers must call the EZ Bus phone number or visit the VRE Web site
to sign up in advance. The free shuttle picks up riders at a designated
spot, like a school bus would, with each bus trip scheduled to arrive at
the VRE station five minutes before the train departs in the morning. In
the evening the bus will leave the station five minutes after the train
arrives, dropping passengers at the same designated spots. With each
morning trip the subscriber will receive a hole-punch on a 15-punch card
that will be issued upon registration. A subscriber can send each card
with all 15 punched holes to VRE and receive a 20 percent rebate on a
monthly VRE ticket.

Customer Coordinator at 571-339-1004, TTY 711 or visit the Web site at www.vre.org and click on the
