Board of Supervisors Inauguration to be Held Dec. 15

Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, in the forum of the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Gaylord L. Finch Jr. will administer the oath of office to Chairman-Elect Gerald E. Connolly and the nine other newly elected members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, two constitutional officers elected countywide, and the three newly elected members of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District. The ceremony will also include musical performances by local artists. A reception will follow.

Media representatives will have the opportunity before the ceremony to interview members of the board and the other elected officials. Starting at 5:30 p.m., board members will be available to speak with the media at the Government Center. As they arrive, media representatives should report directly to the main lobby desk to check in, receive their media kit, and receive assistance with coordinating interviews. Media should bring press credentials to ease the registration process.

The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live with closed captioning on Cable Channel 16. For those who do not have cable, the ceremony will be video streamed on the county Web site, www.fairfaxcounty.gov. It will be rebroadcast on Channel 16 at 9 p.m. on Dec. 19, 22, 26, 29 and Jan. 2.

An inauguration page is available at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/opa/inauguration.htm. Media and the public can use this page as a source of information about the inauguration activities. On the night of the ceremony, photos of the swearing-in will be available on the page as well.

In addition to Chairman-Elect Gerald E. Connolly, the district supervisors to be installed are Sharon Bulova, Braddock District; Joan DuBois, Dranesville District; Michael R. Frey, Sully District; Penelope A. Gross, Mason District; Catherine M. Hudgins, Hunter Mill District; Gerald W. “Gerry” Hyland, Mount Vernon District; Dana Kauffman, Lee District; Elaine McConnell, Springfield District; and Linda Q. Smyth, Providence District.
