Board of Supervisors Inauguration to be
Held Dec. 15
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, in the forum of the Fairfax
County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax,
Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Gaylord L. Finch Jr. will administer
the oath of office to Chairman-Elect Gerald E. Connolly and the nine
other newly elected members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors,
two constitutional officers elected countywide, and the three newly
elected members of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation
District. The ceremony will also include musical performances by local
artists. A reception will follow.
Media representatives will have the opportunity before the ceremony to
interview members of the board and the other elected officials. Starting
at 5:30 p.m., board members will be available to speak with the media at
the Government Center. As they arrive, media representatives should
report directly to the main lobby desk to check in, receive their media
kit, and receive assistance with coordinating interviews. Media should
bring press credentials to ease the registration process.
The inauguration ceremony will be broadcast live with closed captioning
on Cable Channel 16. For those who do not have cable, the ceremony will
be video streamed on the county Web site, www.fairfaxcounty.gov.
It will be rebroadcast on Channel 16 at 9 p.m. on Dec. 19, 22, 26, 29 and
Jan. 2.

Media and the public can use this page as a source of information about
the inauguration activities. On the night of the ceremony, photos of the
swearing-in will be available on the page as well.
In addition to Chairman-Elect Gerald E. Connolly, the district
supervisors to be installed are Sharon Bulova, Braddock District; Joan
DuBois, Dranesville District; Michael R. Frey, Sully District; Penelope
A. Gross, Mason District; Catherine M. Hudgins, Hunter Mill District;
Gerald W. “Gerry” Hyland, Mount Vernon District; Dana Kauffman, Lee
District; Elaine McConnell, Springfield District; and Linda Q. Smyth,
Providence District.
The two constitutional officers elected countywide in November are
Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert F. Horan Jr. (who will be sworn in Dec. 15
pending availability) and Sheriff Stan G. Barry. The three newly elected
members of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District are
David L. Bulova, Gregory C. Evans and Sally B. Ormsby.
