Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and
Other Elected Officials Sworn-in Dec. 15
In a ceremony at the Fairfax County Government Center, yesterday, Dec. 15, Chairman-elect Gerald E. Connolly, the nine other newly elected members of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the newly elected Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District directors, and Sheriff Stan Barry, all took their oath of office in front of a crowd of more than 500 friends, family members and supporters. Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Horan was not able to attend the ceremony due to his current trial schedule.
Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Gaylord Finch Jr. administered the oath of office to each official who, each in their turn, swore to support the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution of the commonwealth of Virginia, and to faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent upon them as officials of Fairfax County, Va.
In addition to the oath of office, the ceremony included musical performances by the W. T. Woodson High School Select Vocal Ensemble and the Emerald Society Pipe Band. The colors were presented by the Fairfax County Public Safety Honor Guard. Police Department Officer First Class Laura Zambron performed the national anthem. The evening began with harp music by Brian Stevenson and concluded with a reception in the conference center.
Chairman-elect Connolly also delivered his inaugural speech as the new chairman of the 10th urban county Board of Supervisors.
