Yesterday, Feb. 9, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation
presented to the Board of Supervisors the South County Bus Service Plan,
which proposes changes to all FAIRFAX CONNECTOR service, Metrobus 9A and
TAGS bus service in the Richmond Highway corridor and greater Springfield
areas of south Fairfax County. The bus plan proposes more frequent
service, two-way loops and more reverse-commute options, streamlined
routes, and limited-stop express service on Richmond Highway.
The Department of Transportation will host four public meetings to
solicit citizen input on the proposed plan. The meetings will take place
at the following locations:
1. Saturday, Feb. 14, noon – 2 p.m., South County Center, 8350
Richmond Highway, Alexandria
2. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 7 – 9 p.m., Martha Washington Library, 6614 Fort
Hunt Road, Alexandria
3. Saturday, Feb. 21, 10 a.m. – noon, Island Creek Elementary, 7855

4. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 7 – 9 p.m., Lorton Library, 9520 Richmond

advance if they plan to speak at the public meetings. To register to
speak, call the phone numbers listed above or e-mail comments@fairfaxbusplan.com.
Department of Transportation staff will be available to answer questions
before and after the meetings.
In addition to the public meetings, the Department of Transportation
will host three open houses where residents may review the bus service
plan and speak with county staff. The open houses will take place at the
following locations:

FAIRFAX CONNECTOR Plan Comments
8101 Cinder Bed Road
Lorton, VA 22079
All comments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on March 12. After considering all comments, the Department of Transportation will present a final recommendation to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in April. Implementation of the new service changes will take place only after approval by the Board of Supervisors. If this approval occurs in April, it is expected that the service changes will begin to occur in the summer of 2004.
