Fairfax County Announces Additional Changes to Budget Public Hearing Times
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has scheduled several public hearings on the FY 2005 Advertised Budget and there have been changes to the times of several of the public hearings:
- Originally scheduled for 7:30 p.m., the Tuesday, March 30, public hearing now will begin at 6 p.m. due to the number of speakers scheduled.
- Additional public hearings on the FY 2005 Advertised Budget are scheduled for Monday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, March 31, at 7 p.m., with the School Board presentation scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
- The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on an effective tax rate increase. This is a separate public hearing from the public hearings on the FY 2005 Advertised Budget. Originally scheduled for Monday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m., this will now be held Wednesday, March 31, at 5 p.m.
The FY 2005 Advertised Budget is based on a real estate tax rate of $1.16 per $100 of assessed value. Although the real estate tax rate that is proposed is the same as the FY 2004 rate, the assessed value of existing property has increased by more than 1 percent. Under such circumstances, state code requires that the Board of Supervisors advertise a public hearing and take action to adopt the proposed FY 2005 rate.
All of the budget public hearings will be held in the Board Auditorium of the Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, and will be televised live on Fairfax County Government Cable Channel 16. The budget public hearings will also be available through video-streaming live on the county Web site at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/dtcs/channel16/vstream.htm, and they will be available on this page through video-on-demand throughout the month of April.
Those wishing to speak at the public hearings should contact the Office
of the Clerk to the Board at 703-324-3151, TTY 703-324-3903, to place
their names on the speakers list. Fairfax County is committed to a policy
