Sacramento Neighborhood Center to Host Third Annual Sacramento Community Day
The Sacramento Neighborhood Center is celebrating its Third Annual Sacramento Community Day Extravaganza 2004 – “Healthy Lifestyles Rock” – on Saturday, May 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sacramento Neighborhood Center located at 8792E Sacramento Drive, Alexandria. This community event, which was postponed in the fall due to Hurricane Isabel, will feature plenty of food and lots of fun and is sponsored by the Fairfax County Department of Community and Recreation Services, UCM Community Solutions and the Sacramento Neighborhood Center.
Wendy Sledd, Mrs. District of Columbia 2004, is the featured guest along with the Mount Vernon High School Color Guard; the West Potomac High School Steppers; Washington Mill Elementary School Chorus; the Hula School of the Favorite Rainbow Dancers; guitarist Darrel Green; as well as live bands; karate demonstrations and much more. There will also be child safety seat inspections by the Mount Vernon Police Station, free sight and hearing exams by the Mason Neck Lions Club and the Woodlawn Fire & Rescue Station #24 will be distributing Safe Kids Month information kits.
Bring the kids for plenty of fun and games with Annie the Clown and the Castle Moon Bounce. Seniors are invited to play bingo under the tent. Over 25 non-profit and county agencies will participate including the Office of the Registrar with on-site voter registration, Office of Partnerships, Coordinated Services Planning, South County Teen Center, and the Gum Springs and Lorton Community Centers. Plenty of food and merchandise will be available on Vendors’ Row.
Sacramento Community Day began in 2001 as an event for the community to focus on three elements – family, community and schools. SNC has a unique position among community centers in that it is managed by UCM Community Solutions, a nonprofit organization. It is located less than one mile north of Fort Belvoir in the southeast corner of the county. The Sacramento neighborhood includes over 1,800 families.
Space is still available for vending tables. SNC
is also seeking volunteers to help with this event. For additional
information on the event, contact L.T. Carson or Crystal Lang at
703-619-2964, TTY 711.
