Fairfax County Government Recognized with Two Awards
City and County Performance Management
Award
Fairfax County was a co-winner (with Miami-Dade County) for the City
and County Performance Management Award, presented at the Fourth Annual
City and County Innovations Summit this week in San Diego, Calif. The
award was presented by The Performance Institute, a private, nonpartisan
think tank dedicated to improving government through the principles of
performance, competition, transparency and accountability.
The Performance Management Award recognizes outstanding contributions in performance-based management in five core functional areas: strategic planning, budgeting, human resources management, information technology and procurement/contracting. Fairfax County’s recent effort to establish strategic linkages in the annual budget between the county’s core purpose and vision elements formed the basis for earning this award. This included linking resources with services, and particularly the countywide and agency-specific performance measures that demonstrate accountability for achieving the strategic vision.
County Government Web Site Among the Nation’s
Best
The Fairfax County Government Web site has been named one of four
“Cream of the Crop” county Web sites from across the country by MuniNet
Guide & Review, one of the leading Web sites in the nation for
municipal-related content on the Internet. This is the seventh annual
survey of local government, municipal finance and related Web sites
conducted by MuniNet (http://muninetguide.com).
“Current and comprehensive, this site has it all,” says the review of the Fairfax County Government Web site. “Along with online payment capabilities and other e-government services, Fairfax County makes great use of its home page as a vehicle for disseminating current news and announcements. When there is an urgent message to get across – e.g., when county offices were closed due to a water main break – residents are informed right away on the site’s front page. In the “About Our County” section, the site also provides great county profile information through a treasure-trove of interesting facts and detailed statistics – all in an easy-to-digest format.”
