"Fairfax County 4 U"
Fairfax County human service agencies are teaming up to provide information and fun to residents on Saturday, May 15, at the first “Fairfax County 4 U” event. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents of Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads, Falls Church, Merrifield, Pimmit Hills and Seven Corners are invited to the human services building located at 6245 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church for refreshments, giveaway items, games and more.
“Our theme for this first-ever event is ‘Working Together to Grow a Healthy Community,’” says Karla Bruce, regional community developer for Region Two of the Department of Systems Management for Human Services. “We wanted to find a way to inform the local community about programs and services available through Fairfax County, especially those right here at the Falls Church location.”
The event provides an opportunity for the county agencies located at the Falls Church human services building to showcase their programs as well as integrate service for residents among the centrally located county agencies.
Participating agencies include Alcohol and Drug Services, Community and Recreation Services, the Department of Family Services, the Department of Systems Management for Human Services, the Falls Church SkillSource Center, the Fire and Rescue Department, the county Health Department, Thomas Jefferson Library and the Woodrow Wilson Community Library. Agencies will have exhibits and literature, as well as games and activities for children.
In addition, staff members will be on hand that speak languages other than English, including Spanish, Somali, Urdu, Vietnamese and Korean.
