Fairfax County Holds First Public Meeting for Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan

On Thursday, June 17, 2004, at 7 p.m. in the Mason District Governmental Center, 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale, the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services will host an issues scoping forum to obtain public input on the development of a plan to guide the future of the Cameron Run Watershed. This is the first of four public meetings planned.

The Cameron Run Watershed is the area south of I-66 inside the Capitol Beltway, including parts of Falls Church, Arlington and Alexandria, and south to Franconia Road and Kings Highway. In the issues scoping forum for the Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan, the public will have the opportunity to help Fairfax County identify problems in the watershed and work towards developing a plan for its future development and restoration.

Recognizing the need to protect the living environment while planning for the orderly development of the county and to complement efforts such as the Chesapeake Bay Agreement, Fairfax County is developing comprehensive watershed management plans for each of the county's 30 watersheds. Previously, the county completed biological and physical assessments of the condition of the county's streams to support the development of watershed plans. The Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan will utilize information from these assessments and seek extensive input from the public. The county has retained the services of Versar Inc. to assist in the development of the Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan.

Information on the watershed management planning efforts currently underway in the county can be found at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/watersheds. For additional information on the Cameron Run Watershed Public Issues Scoping Forum, contact Jennifer Shore of Versar Inc. at 1-866-341-4599 (toll free), TTY 711.
