Board of Supervisors Names Fernandez as New Director for Commission for Women
At its Monday, May 10 meeting, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors appointed Ina G. Fernandez to the position of executive director of the Fairfax County Commission for Women, succeeding Leia Francisco.
Since July 1998, Fernandez has served the Fairfax County Department of Family Services as a social work supervisor where she coordinated and managed the collaboration and partnership of two county and three private, nonprofit agencies in a child abuse and neglect prevention program. A county employee since 1989, Fernandez has served in previous positions including social worker, benefits specialist and eligibility worker. Fluent in Spanish, she has served as a board member of Hispanics Against Child Abuse and Neglect since 2002. Fernandez received a master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University in Alexandria, Va. and a bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pa.
Fernandez’s appointment is effective Sept. 6,
2004, and her salary will be $81,272 a year.
