County Seeks Input on Issues Facing Pedestrians

On Monday, July 26, from 7 to 9 p.m., the Fairfax County Pedestrian Task Force will host an open house to obtain community input on pedestrian mobility, safety and education issues currently under review. The open house will be held in Conference Rooms 4/5 of the Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax.

The Pedestrian Task Force would like to invite the public to comment on its draft mission statement and top issues, and to provide input on important areas that may not already be under review. The mission statement is: "The Fairfax County Pedestrian Task Force will develop a plan for implementing safe and effective pedestrian facilities and will develop a coordinated and collaborative education/outreach program." A list of top issues and more information about the task force can be found online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/pedestrian.htm.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors established the Pedestrian Task Force, consisting of citizens, appointed commission members, and multi-disciplined staff, to review existing Fairfax County pedestrian programs and activities, make recommendations on improving these programs, develop coordinated education and outreach efforts, and prioritize funding for pedestrian projects.

For more information, please contact Chris Wells, Pedestrian Program Manager, or Mimi Murray, Pedestrian Planner, at 703-324-1100, TTY 703-324-1102.
