Channel 16 Brings Home Four Awards for Innovative Programs
Fairfax County Government Cable Channel 16 won four awards for innovative programs last week at the 27th annual Alliance for Community Media’s national Hometown Video Festival, including two first-place awards. Channel 16, the county’s government television station, is part of the county’s Department of Cable Communications and Consumer Protection.
Channel 16 programs “Information Avenue” and “Your Community, Your Call,” a live format program focusing on homeowners’ association issues, both received top awards. “Information Avenue” was recognized in the information feature category while “Your Community, Your Call” was recognized as the best in the live format category.
Channel 16 also received two honorable mentions in the national awards program, winning in the Public Service Announcement and Short Subject categories. The station’s dog license PSA and a feature on Clemyjontri Park were both honored.
The Hometown Video Festival featured 4,067 entries in 45 categories. Entries were received from 33 states and three Canadian provinces.
The winner of 13 CableACE Awards and over 100 other national awards for video excellence, Channel 16 provides high quality information and educational programming to the residents of Fairfax County. Channel 16 programming includes live meeting coverage of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals as well as regular programs such as “Consumer Focus,” “Parks Plus+” and “Senior Times.”
