Fairfax County Holds Community Forum for
Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan
On Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services will host a community forum to obtain public input on the development of a management plan for the Cameron Run Watershed. This forum, the second of four public meetings planned, will be held in the Holmes Middle School, 6525 Montrose Street, Alexandria, Va.
The Cameron Run Watershed is the area south of I-66 inside the Capitol Beltway, including parts of Falls Church, Arlington and Alexandria, and south to Franconia Road and Kings Highway. The community forum will discuss solutions to the watershed issues identified in the public issues scoping meeting held in June. In the community forum for the Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan, the public will learn about the condition of the Cameron Run Watershed; have the opportunity to provide input on approaches to solving problems identified in the watershed; and help work towards developing a plan for its future development and restoration.
Recognizing the need to protect the living environment while planning for the orderly development of the county and to complement efforts such as the Chesapeake Bay Agreement, Fairfax County is developing comprehensive watershed management plans for each of the county’s 30 watersheds. Previously, the county completed biological and physical assessments of the condition of the county’s streams to support the development of watershed plans. The Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan will utilize information from these assessments and seek extensive input from the public. The county has retained the services of Versar Inc. to assist in the development of the Cameron Run Watershed Management Plan.
