Supervisor Hudgins Announces Community Meeting
On Tuesday, Oct. 12, Supervisor Catherine Hudgins and the Wiehle Avenue Steering Committee will be hosting a community meeting to review principles developed by the WASC and solicit input for the upcoming Request for Proposal of the Joint Development Project at the Wiehle Avenue Transit Station. The community meeting will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at South Lakes High School (yellow cafeteria), 11400 South Lakes Drive, Reston. All interested parties are encouraged to attend and participate in this exciting opportunity.
The Wiehle Avenue Steering Committee was appointed by Supervisor Hudgins as a follow-up to the 2001 Charrette and has been meeting regularly to establish criteria for the RFP for the Wiehle Avenue Station. The proposed principles encourage diverse, mixed use, transit-oriented development, and seek to retain and expand access for pedestrian and non-motorized traffic. The Joint Development Plan RFP will provide an alternative to the current public plan for the Wiehle site, which is currently a parking structure for 2,300 parking spaces.
