Smyth to Sponsor Annual Providence District VolunteerFest
On Saturday, Oct. 23, Providence District Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth invites the public to participate in the annual Providence District VolunteerFest. This is in conjunction with national Make A Difference Day, as well as Volunteer Fairfax’s VolunteerFest event. The theme is “Building Communities One Day at Time.” Throughout the day, Volunteer Fairfax is sponsoring volunteer opportunities countywide, some of which will occur in the Providence District. In addition to those events, the Providence District Office is coordinating its own volunteer activities that will occur in various locations throughout the Providence District.
Providence District Office events include:
• A food drive, coordinated with Supervisor Smyth’s office and the
Capital Area Food Bank
• A book sale and bond referendum information session, coordinated with
the Friends of Oakton Library
• Mini Golf, coordinated with Fairfax County Police Department and the
Greater Merrifield Business Association
• Park projects, coordinated with the Fairfax County Park
Authority
• A health fair, coordinated with INOVA/Health Care Advisory Board
• Winter clothes collection, coordinated with the Human Services
Council
and the Mantua Elementary School PTA
• Archiving old photographs, coordinated with the James Lee Community
Center, Virginia Tech scholars and the Tinner Hill Foundation
• Low impact development/Green Roof tour, coordinated with the Yorktowne
Square Condominiums
• Computer Recycling Day, coordinated with EcoStewards Alliance
• VolunteerFest promotion, coordinated with the Providence Players
