2004 Annual Lee District Town Meeting and Community Day
Supervisor Dana Kauffman is holding his annual Lee District Town Meeting and Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 9 a.m. at Lane Elementary School, 7137 Beulah Street, Alexandria.
The event will include activities for the family, a brief town meeting, display tables from many organizations, and a Taste of Lee District provided by the Mount Vernon/Lee and Springfield Chambers of Commerce restaurant members. The Police Motor Squad will be there along with the first district fire engine and new voting machines for everyone to try. Display and information tables will include information on the Springfield Interchange, Woodrow Wilson Bridge, schools, human services, parks, police and fire, library, local businesses and more. The Taste of Lee District “Restaurant Review” will include Baja Fresh and many others.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. for people to browse the display tables; meetings will begin at 10 a.m. There will be a flag presentation by Hayfield High School JROTC, followed by the national anthem sung by the Madrigals of Hayfield High School, and opening remarks and introductions of guests by Supervisor Kauffman.
The topic of discussion will be Land Use in Lee District: An Explanation
of the Process and How You Can Get Involved. Presentations will
include:
• Paul Gagnon, chairman of the Lee District Land Use Committee – “The
Citizen-Led Land Use Process”
• Rodney Lusk, Lee District planning commissioner – “Planning Commission
and its Role” and “How You Can Get Involved in the Process”
• Jim Zook, director of Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning
– “How Land Use is Evaluated by County Staff”
• Ho Chang, director of Fairfax County Department of Transportation –
“How Transportation Issues Impact Land Use”
• Marianne Gardner, Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning –
“How the APR Planning Process Works”
Supervisor Kauffman will close out the meeting,
and there will be a question and answer session at 11:30 a.m. followed by
the Taste of Lee District at noon. For more information call the Lee
