Ceremony to Celebrate Allen Street Road Improvements
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Allen Street Road Improvements on Monday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. beside Knox Presbyterian Church, 7416 Arlington Blvd., Falls Church. Speakers for the ceremony will include Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly, Providence District Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth and Delegate Robert D. Hull, 38th District, Virginia House of Delegates.
The project resulted in a number of significant improvements to Allen Street:
- replacement of about 800 feet of roadway
- replacement of 1,800 feet of curb and gutter
- installation of eight storm structures and three manholes to improve drainage
- installation of three disabled ramps and two crosswalks for pedestrian crossing
- replacement of 275 square yards of concrete sidewalk
- installation of one traffic loop detector
- restoration of the area with seed, mulch and top soil
The project was made possible through a partnership among Fairfax County, the Fairfax County Board of Road Viewers, VDOT and the federal Economic Development Initiative. The county also worked closely with the community in designing and completing this project, especially with Kingsley Commons, Treemont Gardens and Knox Presbyterian Church.
