Holds Third Annual "Events 101" Workshop

Celebrate Fairfax Inc. will hold its third annual “Events 101” workshop on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fairfax County’s South County Center, 8350 Richmond Highway, Alexandria. “Events 101” is designed for anyone who is not a professional outdoor festival or special event planner.

The program will include keynote speaker Michael Crain, managing director of the 2005 Presidential Inauguration Committee, followed by two workshop sessions. Session one will include such topics as nuts and bolts of setting up a festival, what happens when…, ABC’s of successful entertainment programming, and surveys and evaluations. The second session will include alternative fund raising ideas, grant writing, volunteer management and new ideas in children’s programming. A group planning workshop and a panel session will conclude the afternoon program.

“Events 101” was conceived as an affordable way to educate nonprofit organizations, agencies, civic associations and other organizations on ways to produce successful festivals and special events in Fairfax County.

Attendees will learn the basics of event planning, how to develop successful programming to secure sponsorships, and how to develop marketing and public relations plans. Event planning veterans will also benefit from sessions featuring new speakers, fresh focus areas and updated content.

In addition to the networking opportunity, Celebrate Fairfax Inc. provides all participants with a comprehensive resource manual of “dos,” “don’ts” and “how-tos” of producing a festival or special event in Fairfax County. The manual contains contact information, advertisements from operational sources, workshop presentation materials and more.
